NUKU'ALOFA (Matangi Tonga/Pacific Media Watch): A three-day Pacific Regional Workshop on Communication and Good Governance was officially opened in Nuku'alofa on February 2 by Tonga's Minister of Information and Communication, 'Eseta Fusitu'a, who shared an anecdote about how foreign media asked her "irritating" questions.

The workshop at the Fa'onelua Convention Centre, was co-hosted by the Tongan government and the Commonwealth Secretariat, and was the first of its kind in the region for government communication officers.

Commonwealth member countries in the region were invited - but the only countries that sent participants were Cook Islands, Samoa and Solomon Islands.

SUVA (Fiji Times/Pacific Media Watch): Somewhere today a young mother
left her home way before dawn to get some peace of mind. She had to
trudge through turmoil and snares, craving to bring home peace and
harmony. That her children won't be affected by these impediments of
life is her endless hope, but she is probably misled as thousands are
every day, for whom domestic violence has made life a living hell. But
is it an insurmountable problem?

Be familiar with your rights under the Domestic Violence Decree is the
advice from Nazhat Shameem to the many victims of domestic violence.

Opinion – By David Robie
The loss of inspirational Tongan philosopher, educator and social critic ‘Ilaisa Futa ‘i Ha’angana Helu, who died on Tuesday at the age of 75, will be felt deeply throughout the Pacific.
But his vision and critical thinking will live on through his family and the many Pacific leaders and innovators he has touched and inspired over more than four decades of education through his modest, and still struggling, yet influential ‘Atensi Institute.
I had the privilege of meeting him again after many years while sharing his 75th birthday celebrations at an induction ceremony for scholars at ‘Atenisi last June.
