| Abstract: | This chapter discusses the role of community-based media, specifically participatory video (PV), towards building cohesive communities based on an ethnographic case study with rural women in Fiji. Employing participatory research, the author facilitated a video workshop to train women in the use of video technology and to observe how communities engage in processes of production for empowerment, and the implications for dialogue, community building and representation within the context of Fiji's fragmented multicultural society. As such, the study locates participatory video (PV) within concepts of empowerment and transformation drawing on local knowledge, norms, and practices. |
